What if I have a previous conviction or caution? Follow
If you have a previous conviction or caution this does not necessarily mean that you can't get clearance to perform a regulated role in Cricket.
When your DBS certificate has been issued the ECB will contact you via email to confirm if you need to send your certificate to us.
It would be requested that you post the original certificate to us as soon as you receive it. You must send the original hard copy, we do not accept scans or photocopies. Please only send your certificate to the Safeguarding team @ ECB - do not show your certificate to any other personnel in cricket.
Once the Safeguarding team have received your certificate they will make a decision, based on the content and its relevancy in respect of an individual's suitability to work with children, they will take one of the following actions.
- If the safeguarding officer decides that there is no risk, they will grant you your ECB clearance and notify you of this
- If they feel that there is a risk posed by the nature of your offences, they may take the decision to either disqualify you from all cricketing activity, or they may grant you clearance to perform certain roles, with conditions
As part of this process, the safeguarding officer may decide that further investigation is required before a decision can be made. They may also contact you requesting your own account of the circumstances and your consent to contact third parties as part of their investigation.
If we do not receive your certificate we will send weekly reminders for 3 weeks via email giving a deadline of 30 days for receipt. After this deadline passes and we have not received your certificate, you will be temporarily suspended from any and roles under the definition of regulated activity until such time as we have received your certificate.
Once the safeguarding officer's investigations have been completed, the ECB will send you an email notifying you of the final decision regarding your clearance. Your County Safeguarding Officer will also be notified.
If you have been asked to send in your certificate for review but have not received it from the DBS you may be able to request a reprint.
If you are not eligible for a reprint e.g. your certificate has been lost or destroyed, or more than 93 days have passed since the result was issued, you will need to make a new application. You will need to notify the ECB safeguarding team if any of the above applies to you by emailing safeguarding@cricketregulator.co.uk.
Once you have received the new certificate you must post it to Edgbaston for review.
Once the review process is complete your certificate will be posted back to you via 1st Class Registered postal delivery.
