What if I have a previous conviction or caution? Follow

All convictions, cautions and information on the DBS certificate are assessed for their relevance in respect of safeguarding children and an individual’s suitability to work with children.

The assessment is carried out by the Vetting Officer. If you have content on your DBS certificate, the Vetting Officer may refer the case to the Vetting Panel. The Panel may then request further information from you to ensure you are suitable to hold a position of trust in cricket.

The existence of any convictions and/or cautions will not necessarily prevent an individual from being involved in cricket and being cleared for carrying out regulated roles, that will depend on the nature and circumstance of the information provided and will be vetted on a case by case basis.

If your check and subsequent certificate is identified as containing relevant content, you will be requested to submit your DBS certificate to the Safeguarding Team to complete the vetting process. You will not be cleared for Regulated Activity until this has been confirmed by the Safeguarding Team.

You will have an initial 28 days to submit your certificate though if this is not received in this time you will be temporarily suspended from any roles under the definition of Regulated Activity until such time as we have received your certificate.

Once the Vetting Officer's investigations have been completed, the Cricket Regulator will send you an email notifying you of the final decision regarding your clearance. Your County Safeguarding Officer will also be notified.

If you have been asked to send in your certificate for review but have not received it from the DBS you may be able to request a reprint. If you are not eligible for a reprint e.g. your certificate has been lost or destroyed, or more than 93 days have passed since the result was issued, you will need to make a new application.

You will need to notify the ECB Safeguarding Team if any of the above applies to you by emailing safeguarding@cricketregulator.co.uk.

Once you have received the new certificate you must post it the Safeguarding Team for review. Once the review process is complete your certificate will be returned to you via Royal Mail's First Class Signed For service.

Who will know about my criminal convictions?

DBS certificates containing content will only be seen by the Cricket Regulator Safeguarding Team, this information will not be shared outside of the Safeguarding Team, unless there is a need to share information with others in order to safeguard children.

All information is kept confidential and managed within a secure environment, in accordance with the requirements of the Data Protection Act. Where information is shared, this is done in accordance with the requirements of ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children, 2023’.
