SHMS - Role Descriptions Follow
Club Administrator
Responsible for managing the club’s administration for ECB Safe Hands. Duties include maintaining member records and ensuring information is accurate and up to date.
Club Chair
The overall leader of the club committee. Provides strategic direction, oversees governance, and ensures the club operates effectively, safely, and in line with ECB policies and club constitution.
Club Safeguarding Officer (CSO)
The lead person for safeguarding and child protection within the club. Ensures Safe Hands policies are followed, manages DBS compliance, handles safeguarding concerns, and acts as the main point of contact for welfare issues.
Coach
A qualified individual responsible for planning and delivering cricket training sessions. Ensures skill development, safe practice environments, and adherence to ECB coaching and safeguarding guidelines.
Assistant Coach
Supports the lead coach in delivering sessions. Helps with drills, supervision, and player development while working under the direction of the main coach.
Umpire
Officiates matches, ensuring the Laws of Cricket are applied correctly and fairly. Responsible for on-field decisions and maintaining the spirit and conduct of the game.
Scorer
Records match details such as runs, wickets, overs, and player statistics. Ensures accurate scoring and often inputs results into systems like Play-Cricket.
Age Group Manager
Manages a specific junior age group team. Coordinates players, communicates with parents, organises fixtures, and ensures appropriate supervision and safeguarding measures are in place.
Open-Age Team Captain
Leads an adult/open age team during matches. Responsible for team selection (often with others), on-field decisions, and representing the team in club matters.
Volunteer Co-ordinator
Recruits, organises, and supports club volunteers. Ensures roles are filled, volunteers are informed, and helps maintain a positive volunteering environment.
Junior Supervisor
Provides supervision for junior players outside of active coaching sessions (e.g., before/after sessions). Helps ensure a safe environment and supports safeguarding practices.
Activator
An ECB Activator is a trained volunteer who leads or assists with the England and Wales Cricket Board's (ECB) All Stars/Dynamos programme. They are the key personnel who run fun, inclusive, and eight-week introductory cricket sessions for children aged five to eight.
First Aider
Qualified to provide immediate basic medical assistance in case of injury or illness during cricket activities. Ensures appropriate response and documentation of incidents.
Physiotherapist
A trained medical professional who provides injury prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation support to players. May assess injuries and advise on fitness and recovery.
Please note, the Club Admin, Club Chair, Scorer and First Aid role are not regulated and do not require an ECB DBS.
