  1. What is a Digital ID check?

    A Digital ID check is an online method of verifying an applicant’s identity using secure technology instead of checking physical documents. It allows applicants to prove who they are quickly and safely during the DBS application process.

     

  2. Why is Digital ID used for DBS applications?

    Digital ID speeds up the identity‑verification stage of a DBS check. It reduces delays, removes the need to present original documents in person, and helps ensure a smoother, more efficient application process.

     

  3. How does the Digital ID process work?

    Applicants upload images of their identity documents and complete a short biometric check (such as a selfie match). The system then verifies the information against trusted data sources to confirm the applicant’s identity.

     

  4. Is Digital ID secure?

    Yes. Digital ID checks use encrypted systems and follow strict government‑approved standards to protect personal information and ensure the identity check is accurate and trustworthy.

     

  5. Do I have to use Digital ID?

    No. Digital ID is optional. Applicants can still choose the traditional route of presenting physical documents if they prefer.

     

  6. How much does a Digital ID check cost?

    When completed the cost is £4.92 per submitted application.

     

  7. Does using Digital ID speed up my DBS application?

    In most cases, yes. Because identity verification happens instantly online, applications can move forward more quickly compared to manual document checking.

     

  8. What documents do I need for a Digital ID check?

    You’ll typically need a valid passport, driving licence, or other government‑issued ID. The system will guide you on what is acceptable and whether your documents meet the required standard.

     

  9. Can I use the Digital ID app outside of the UK?

    Registration requirements

    Your device region must be set to the United Kingdom.

    Your device time must be set to automatic (auto‑sync/update).

    You must have a UK registered number to use the APP.

    Availability vs. usability

    The app is intentionally made available in selected countries so users abroad can download it.

    Downloading the app does not guarantee you can register unless you meet the UK‑specific requirements.

    Using the app after registration

    Once registered with a UK number and correct device settings, the app will continue to work abroad.

    Changing your region or turning off automatic time may stop the app from functioning until corrected.
