What is ECB DBS Checker? Follow

If you are a member of a County board with a role requiring access to the ECB DBS Checker you can request this by contacting the ECB DBS team here.

Club Safeguarding Officers wishing to know the status of someone's DBS should contact their County Board if they are not yet on the Safe Hands Management System. If the individual in question is in the process of completing an application, the Atlantic Data DBS portal can be used.

Once your access has been approved and setup you will receive an email confirming your login credentials. You can change your password at any time once logged in, by clicking on your 'Profile' in the top right of the screen.

To search for someone's DBS status, go to https://dbs.ecb.co.uk/ and log in using your email address and password. Click on 'DBS search' in the top menu and enter the surname and DOB of the person into the relevant fields at the top of the screen and click 'search'.

Providing the details input exactly match a DBS record, you will then see the details of their clearance, including status and expiry date*

*Please note that all DBS clearance is only given for a max of 12 months at each check. If the applicant is registered to the DBS update service, then they will be rechecked annually on their issue date in order to receive clearance for a further 12 months. If the renewal date is more than 12 months in the future, please note they will be rechecked on the next anniversary date.

To illustrate; Christopher's DBS was issued 10/04/2025, he registered to the Update Service and gave the ECB consent to carry out rechecks. The renewal date will show as 10/04/2028, however on 10/04/2026 the recheck will be carried out to ensure the certificate is still valid. This check will only take place if Christopher has confirmed consent for the recheck to take place - he will be emailed 30 days prior to start this process. Please see ECB DBS Renewal Process for more information on this process. As long as the recheck is clear, Christopher's renewal date will then adjust to 10/04/2029, with the next recheck scheduled for 10/04/2027.

If the renewal date shown is within the next 12 months, then this would indicate one of the following:

  1. Applicant did not register to the update service and therefore certificate is only valid for 1 year
  2. Applicant opted out of annual renewal rechecks as they are not continuing in their role after that date
  3. Applicant has not confirmed to the ECB that they are registered and/or give consent to renew

In these circumstances, if you have an official that is continuing in regulated activity, then you would need to initiate a new application for them. If they did register and just need to give us consent to check.  If this is the case, please contact Customer Support to action.
